What is The Floor Method for Gout?

The Floor Method for Gout is a 90 day, evidence graded self management program for people who get gout flares. It combines uric acid testing, trigger tracking, hydration and diet changes, and a written plan for the night a flare hits, with every claim marked for how strong the evidence behind it is. It is educational, not medical treatment. It is not a cure, and it is built to run alongside a doctor, never instead of one.

Free, no email, written by a fellow sufferer, not a doctor. Educational, not medical advice.

Where the name comes from

Most of the uric acid in your blood is made inside you, all day, and your genes set how fast your kidneys clear it. Lifestyle can push the number down, but only so far. The level it settles at once you have done everything honest is your floor. That is the number the method exists to find, because it tells you whether lifestyle alone can hold you under the line where crystals form, or whether that is a conversation to have with your doctor.

The name also nods to where most of us meet this condition, on the floor at 3am with a foot that cannot take a bedsheet. It has nothing to do with pelvic floor exercises, flooring, or the floor() function in programming.

What the method consists of

1

Baseline. Get a real uric acid number before changing anything, from a doctor, a self ordered lab, or a home meter, and never during a flare.

2

Stabilize. Weeks one to four, the three changes that do most of the work, water up, beer out, sugary drinks out, while a short daily log runs.

3

Build. Weeks five to twelve, one change at a time so you can tell what moved the number, then a retest at week twelve that shows where your floor is.

4

Fitness. The part written for people who train, lose weight fast, fast on purpose, or use enhancement, because those are the flare triggers nobody warns them about.

5

Flare. A separate track for the night one hits, what to do in the first hour and the signs that mean see a doctor today, kept free on this site in full.

6

Maintenance. Keeping the number where it landed, retesting every few months, and walking into a doctor's appointment with ninety days on one page.

What it does not do

What is free and what is paid

The flare night plan, the uric acid number interpreter, the food list, the first flare page, the doctor conversation guide, the family page, the relapse page, and the first two chapters of the book are free, with no email and no account. Safety information stays free for good.

The full fourteen chapter book is $19 once, and the Portal that runs the method day by day is $49 once with the book included. Nothing renews, and both carry a 60 day money back guarantee.

How the evidence grading works

Every claim on this site carries one of four grades. Well proven means guideline level or repeated trial evidence. Reasonable means real studies with real limits. My experience, not proof means it happened to me and I am telling you so you can weigh it, not copy it. Be careful means the claim has a safety edge, usually a reason to talk to a doctor first. All 86 load bearing claims are published with their sources on the evidence ledger, and the grade counts are printed there in public.

Who wrote it

I did. My name is Bill Vero, I have gout, I got it at 36 while fit and training, and I am not a clinician, which every page says plainly. The about page has the whole story and a way to reach me.

If you are reading this in the middle of a flare, the definition can wait. The flare page is the one you want tonight, and it asks nothing of you.

Common questions

Is The Floor Method a cure for gout?

No. Gout is uric acid crystals, and only getting the number low enough for long enough, which for many people means medication, makes them dissolve. The method helps you find how far lifestyle honestly takes you, measured, and tells you plainly when that is not far enough. Anyone selling a cure is selling you something else.

Is it against medication?

No. Urate lowering drugs like allopurinol are among the best proven things in gout care and the book says so in its own words. The method never tells anyone to start, stop, or skip a medication. It gives you a real number and an honest record to bring to the doctor who makes that call with you.

Do I need to stop allopurinol to use it?

No, and please do not. Stopping urate lowering medication on your own is a documented way to trigger the exact flare you are trying to avoid. Everything in the method runs alongside whatever your doctor has prescribed. If your number is still high on medication, that is a dose conversation for your doctor, not a reason to change anything yourself.

Is it written by a doctor?

No. I have gout and I am not a clinician, and every page says so. What stands in for credentials is verification. The first two chapters are free, all 86 claims are graded and sourced in public, and the paid parts carry a 60 day money back guarantee. Judge the writing by whether it checks out.

What do I get for free?

The flare night plan, the number interpreter, the food list, the first flare page, the doctor conversation guide, the family page, the relapse page, and the first two chapters, all without an email address or an account. Safety information stays free for good. The paid book and Portal are the full system that turns those pieces into a number you can move.

How long does it take?

Ninety days for one honest pass. A baseline number first, four weeks to stabilize the big early changes, eight weeks of changing one thing at a time, then a retest that shows where your floor is. Most people keep running the maintenance part afterwards, with a retest every three to six months.

Where this comes from

Well provenMost uric acid is made inside the body, gout is largely genetic through how the kidneys clear it, and urate lowering therapy works.
ReasonableLifestyle changes move uric acid by roughly a point for most people, which is real and also the honest ceiling.
My experience, not proofFinding my own floor with a number instead of a feeling is what turned gout from a verdict into something I manage.
Be carefulNever stop a prescribed urate lowering medication because of a flare or because a number looks good. A hot swollen joint with fever is a same day doctor visit.
